Best Industries to Explore in 2021 and Beyond
List of some lucrative and rewarding industries to explore for anyone in between phases of life
Are you in between jobs? In between schools? In between any phase of life? Here is a list of some lucrative and rewarding industries to explore, that could lead to a fulfilling career.
To quote an American treasure, Ricky Bobby, “If you’re not first, you’re last!” This statement could not be more applicable to the topic of this week’s newsletter. Job markets and industries are always evolving, and if you are not following these trends, you could get left behind treading water. This week’s newsletter is here to provide you with a list of some industries that never go out of style, to make sure that we are all first in our own lives, not last.
The economy is everchanging, usually leaving people “in between” places, if you will. The job market is unsteady, this is an election year, and there was one more thing going on in the world right now…Oh yeah – Corona Virus. You can either look at all that is happening in the world as a negative or use the adversity to motivate yourself to rise above. The negative outlook would be to stand idly by and not adapt. Rising above the adversity would be to research and to find the best places for you to start your next move, specifically for career building.
In this newsletter I am going to break down what I believe to be the best industries to get into in today’s day in age. As you read about each industry, picture yourself working a job in that field and imagine what your life could be. So, without further ado lets jump right in!
1. Education
Now, when I say education, I do not specifically mean being a schoolteacher, I mean the whole world of education. Education consists of two important parts: teachers and technology. The world will always need passionate teachers entering the workforce, so if that is your calling and the path of education you would like to pursue, I would highly recommend taking this path. I have a very great advocate for this as my wonderful girlfriend is a teacher and loves each and every day with her students. The other path is technology in education. The world is trending towards online learning faster than we know it, and COVID-19 just sped the process up even more. Think of all the programs and devices we use nowadays for education. You could go work for one of those companies and help shape what our online education looks like. I can only image this career path as being rewarding and fun at the same time.
2. E-Commerce
Now, I was a little biased in the first industry since my girlfriend is in that field, but I am even more biased about this industry because this is what I am currently working in. E-Commerce is great for anyone trying to get acquainted with all aspects of business, especially since the industry is so broad. Take a moment to think about the players in e-commerce (i.e. Amazon, eBay, Shopify, Alibaba, Walmart, etc.). In this space, the jobs can vary from client facing, creative work, or marketing/advertising. This creates growth and possibility for all interests, or a great shift in your career if you are burnt out from your current industry. In the age of online shopping, two-day deliveries, and curbside pickup, E-Commerce is the future. If you love products or you love working with great brands, definitely look into this industry.
3. Artificial Intelligence
If you are a dreamer and a thinker, then this is the industry for you. And no, I don’t mean building robots or other crazy stuff like that. Artificial Intelligence, or AI, is incredibly vast and has a wide variety of positions to work in. From the actual science and development to the design and ethics part of AI as well. You can be technical or not and still get into this industry and do some amazing work. Just think about how much AI is already in our everyday life. Siri by Apple, Alexa by Amazon, and the new Google Home as well. These are all examples of AI that has taken off, and it is still just getting started. This sort of technological work is beyond fascinating, creative, oh, and it pays very well.
4. Climate Work
Let me just admit, I do not even know what to call this industry to truly include everything I am suggesting with “climate work.” So, please excuse the middle school level vocabulary in the title, I will workshop it later. As all of us know, climate change is a huge buzz word in the media nowadays, and rightfully so. We do not take care of our environment the way we should. I do not just mean power plants blowing endless amounts of smoke into the sky, this is a lifestyle that humans have become so deeply rooted in and is increasingly harming our planet. This is on all of us. So, why not work to change the world, or technically save it. You could work in the government to help sustain our environment or you could work for a company that is creating sustainable products with cleaner ingredients, etc. There is a wide range of options here. This field, however, will probably take a lot of hard work and a deep understanding of the environment, so if you are ready for that, then dive right in!
5. Data
Oh data, you beautifully interesting thing. I say that because data is very new to our world, believe it or not. Don’t get me wrong, data has always existed, but it has never been harvested, measured, and reported the way it is today. I am here to tell you; I would not be surprised if this industry was still in its adoption phase. A key aspect of a career to look out for is how much growth potential you see. There is so much growth potential here. Data is a tool that people should be using for good and for growth. Think of a data scientist for example, they are solving complex problems using math and science to solve real world problems; not just for big corporations, but for the climate, for e-commerce, for education, and everything else in between. Data helps break everything down and become clearer. If you still don’t believe me that this is a booming industry, well then not even Ricky Bobby can help you here. While you are doing your research on any of the industries I discussed, remember everything you click on is supported by data. Data is everywhere.
In conclusion, everything I laid out in this newsletter is my educated opinion and should be interpreted as such. There are so many industries out there that are also growing just as much as these. I challenge you to do the research if you are in between jobs, in between college and the real world, or even in between high school and college. This type of research will help solidify what you want in life, because if you are not working in a place that brings you joy, then you probably need a change. Cheers!
